We've all read those futuristic books or have seen those SYFY movies, where the people are herded around like cattle. They are branded like animals and judged on their wealth and looks. Where there is one supreme dictator over all, leaving everybody to mindlessly follow. Only a small percentage of people have enough courage to stand up for what they believe in and never let go of their vision. I used to be optimistic and say "Oh that's impossible." or "That will never happen!" But look at us now!
Society is disgusting! We have people hurting each other because of greed. We see women changing themselves through surgeries and pills, trying to fit a certain image, because they think its attractive to look like a deformed toothpick. We have little girls, YES LITTLE GIRLS, dressing provocatively. We turn our eyes to all the pain in other parts of the world and go on trying to fulfill some stupid "American Dream". What is that even supposed to be? A "dream" where we all conform? A “dream” where money is everything? More like a horrifying nightmare.
Look at society now. Its only a short matter of time before we end up like those oblivious, negligent people. That is... if we already aren't. We rely on social networking to meet all our needs. Look at me for example. I'm sitting here voicing my opinion through a computer. Know why we do it? Because we're cowards. We can start an internet revolution if we wanted to, but old-school, classic protesting is too difficult. Correction... it's too demanding. You must keep at it, you must be brave and you most definitely must be dedicated, driven and inspired. Judging by modern day, American civilization we are no where near driven. We are just... bricks in a wall. Stupid, lifeless, inanimate bricks.
We base LOVE, the most pure thing this world has to offer, off of things we see on television and hear in music. We say we love people that we do not even know. Kids are rushing into love. Pouring their souls young adolescent hearts out to each other. It make me wonder, are you that naive? Love doesn't pop in and out of your life. That's fictional. Sorry to rip off the bandage, but it was well needed. Love is steady and consistent, yet we try to make it seem fleeting and complicated.
Drug use and suicide are trickling down to young kids. Every year gets worse. Last week drugs were in college. Yesterday they were in high school. Today they are in middle schools. I don't want to even be here the day my little sister, who is in second grade, tells me about a young friend on drugs.
People degrade each other, because it makes them feel better about themselves. Isn't that sick? Would you do that to somebody if you knew what they were going to do to themselves behind a closed door, because of what you said?
We judge each other, we change ourselves, we hurt each other, we conform, we're losing ourselves.
We don't need to be like everybody else. We don't need to be “better” than anyone. No Top Drawer. No Elite. No High Life. To Hell with Society.
It's damning us into complete and utter unhappiness...
Someday we're going to look back at the world, how it is now, and wish we had fixed it. Wish we had given our kids a better chance at happiness. Wish we had given more of our heart. Wish we had projected more happiness.
So now what? We go on waiting for the world to change? We sit here and hope?
No. We are the future. If we don't start changing the world, who will?
